In one of his rare essays, the introduction to his selected poems, American poet Robinson Jeffers outlined how western civilization had peaked and was now in decline. This statement came around the time of WWII. He was prescient, of course, a poet of great austerity and raging beauty, unpopular for “inhumanity”, he saw very clearly and without sentimentality.
