Yeah, the greatest disapointment for the Germans has come a day later, when Obama was in France. That piece of news was in every channel. He said he wants Euros to participate more actively in the Afganistan operation and no previous mission limitation should be further allowed. Wow. That was a shock.
Not really. It was quite clear for those who saw his speech in Berlin that Obama called for a stronger commitment to Afghanistan. Furthermore, the German newspaper reported that this has been the subject of the conversations with Merkel.
What actually is surprising is that this did not stir more controverse in Germany.
