All of the commentators here present interesting points. As an American who firmly believed that there were clear-cut heroes and villains in the Balkan war of the early 1990s, I can say now that my mind has been altered and I have started to wonder if we did not handle the situation in the fairest way possible. The fact that the Muslims left the Yugoslav army in droves and formed their own militia was in and of itself an act of aggression.
I can understand why we didn’t get a lick of goodwill from the Islamic world defending the Bosnian Muslims. We were unexpected but beneficial fools in the game to those who wished to see Islamic expansion in SE Europe.
What’s next? Will the areas Muslims become more emboldened by a President Obama, or a President McCain (who would continue the policies of the past)?
