Funny how McCain has no true-believers. I find that comforting.
Funny how Obama’s supporters can’t see or admit that going to campaign in Europe to those who can’t vote for him was not a good plan. This isn’t about who you like, it’s about the impression it will give to those who are *not* already swooning over him! Or does appealing to the unwashed *American* masses seem too low a thing to worry about? Much better to just accuse them of being uncultured and stupid, eh?
Maybe someone thought that a big foreign speech would make him look Presidential… it was easy enough for McCain to suggest it was presumptuous instead of presidential. And maybe Obama wasn’t foolish enough to have the speech in FRANCE but it was still EUROPE.
Now we know, oh yes we do know, that some people are highly enamored of all things European but all of *those* people are already voting for Obama. Aren’t they.
An Obama supporter should be clear eyed enough to understand that while their reaction is favorable the reaction of a whole lot of other people is going to be unfavorable. Arguing that those people are wrong is pointless. Those people vote.
What has hurt Obama more than just about anything is the perception, right or wrong, that he is not Patriotic… that voting for him as president would be a bit like getting married to someone who doesn’t love you better than anyone else… who isn’t passionate about *you*. But some people do seem to think that Patriotism is a dirty word and someone with a Cosmopolitan outlook would view being a citizen of the world as the proper thing to be.
But most people aren’t so “enlightened.” They want a husband or wife who is convinced that they alone are the frosting on the cake and a president who will advocate for this country above all others and do so with a measure of passion.
Obama is passionate enough… just not exclusive enough.
And it’s not going to play well at home.
That and not visiting the wounded soldiers… or at least making excuses about not visiting the soldiers. He’s a Senator for pity’s sake, if he wants to visit a military hospital he *can*.
