I don’t need to be bilingual. I can get in my car, and drive for DAYS ON END and still get by perfectly fine speaking my native tongue visiting oceans, mountains, deserts,… Try that in Europe. Europeans are multi-lingual because they need to be if they ever go more than a few hours from home!
If each of these United States had a different language, I’d probably know at least 10, but the simple truth is; they don’t, and I don’t need to. And if I go to Europe on vacation and stumble a bit ordering another round of beers, well, that’s just part of the experience of going somewhere foreign – hell, it’s kinda the POINT.

And frankly, if you look at the state of education in liberal strongholds like DC, Chicago, and NYC… concentrating on literacy in English should be the priority.
