Forget the media, music videos and the internet…I’ve always thought the the early sexualization of girls started with Barbie dolls. When my daughter was young I refused to buy her Barbie dolls because the clothes were so skanky. I used to look a the different boxes at the toy store and think to myself, “bar hopping” Barbie, “cokehead” Barbie, “pole dancer” Barbie, “high end hooker” Barbie, etc.

Later, when my daughter was a preteen, there was a popular brand of clothes being marketed to this age group called Porn Star. I would see little 11-13 year old girls walking around wearing tee shirts that said Porn Star on the front.
I used to wonder how our culture had evolved to the point where parents would think it was OK to buy these trashy things for their pre-teen daughters.

Something has always made me think that mothers who feel the need to extend their own youth and hipness, dress their daughters like little Lolitas as way of extending their own sexuality. It’s like hot mom brand extension
