Throwing all the politics and angst aside, the movie was a graphic and cinematic tour d’force, as the box office receipts atest to. On the other hand, the reality of the battle and the heroics are somewhat cheapened on both sides by this cinematic fantasy, for a reasonably accurate historical fiction account that is also great reading, try Stephen Pressfield’s “Gates of Fire”
