Like other great “empires”, the point was that if you were a rich philosopher, you would enjoy the Persian Empire. Ditto for rich sexy women. But peasants were zilch. No rights. Pointing out that rich women married to men had power is nonsense. Doesn’t mean the average woman wasn’t veiled.
If you were a stubborn Greek Peasant, you’d up and man the boats at Salamis.
And if you were a woman, you’d prefer to live in Sparta, where women had equality.
And if you were a slave, bummer. No one treated you very well.
