Given the emphasis the Greek story is given in the West (the Cradle of Democracy and all of that), it’s refreshing to hear something from the Persian side. Movies are not JUST movies, they reflect prevailing mythology. It’s good to know that Persian culture has a long tradition that is quite at odds with the version the Mullahs provide.

My high school’s sports teams were named for the Spartans and we never learned that those noble Greeks left unwanted babies on the hillside to be ravaged by wolves. To paraphrase Disraeli, the Persians were
preparing the way for human rights when the English-speaking people were still painting themselves blue.
