Why, for the same reason women marry death row murderers, or stay in battered relationships. It stems from an inability or unwillingness to recognize evil when it hides behind a façade of “beauty”. Why, because one lacks the courage to take responsibility for the decisions one makes. Why, they are invertebrates and lacking in character. Have seen glimpses of the latter in the mirror but have not stepped into the abyss. Experienced the bliss at age 6, as an adult came to define that moment as the perfect day and a connectedness or oneness with the universe. As an adult, I experienced the joy after the sacrament of reconciliation; I think my feet were not touching the ground at least until I realized they were not. I used to admire Islam because its adherents incorporated their faith in their entire life not just on their Sabbath. Now realize that Muslims are like the Pharisees and some Christians, it is all about works and appearance for the other members to see. Christianity offers bliss if one has faith and accepts the gift of grace. So there is no need to look for bliss and perfection in the secular world.
