It is true that Baha’is in Iran are being persecuted by the Iranian Government, but not all Muslim governments or followers of Islam are persecuting other religions. With regards to why your now ex-girlfriend was defending Islam in response to whatever comments you were making, is undoubtably because Baha’is believe in the oneness of religion and that all Manifestations, Moses, Budha, Krishna, Christ, Mohammad, etc. came from God to bring teachings for the time they came to earth. So to make crass remarks about any faith background might be offensive to her since she believes in the truth that all of these Messengers bring to humanity. But, Baha’is are also forbidden from judging one another for our faults (since we all have them and we are all attempting to learn how to overcome them). So, if what you were saying was that upsetting to her, I’m hoping that she tried to talk with you about it before leaving the relationship. If she didn’t then you might want to take some time to reflect on the things you said and call her in a couple of days if you feel you might be able to work something out. It sounds like the ball is mostly in your court at this point.
