The problem with that idea is that instead of covering the reason for the “dirty tricks of our own,” the press will only cover the “dirty tricks” and make sure it appears that the poor, innocent, put upon lefties have done nothing to deserve such treatment from the evil tea party/conservative/republican/wingnuts.
And, because our society has become so used to taking the press at its word without bothering to check the facts, we could wind up with voters going against our folks simply because they think we’re mean people who will stoop to anything to get power. Even though evidence clearly shows there are far more folks on the left obsessed with their own power and willing to do anything to keep it than there ever have been on the right.
