(Sheriff Doug) Gillespie’s Gestapo are a law unto themselves here in Vegas. Civil rights violations are their speciality. This isn’t the first time video evidence has disappeared or “malfunctioned”. I personally know someone who filed a formal complaint against an officer for abusive treatment and illegal detention and – surprise surprise! – the cruiser dash-cam was malfunctioning at the time. I personally witnessed heavily-armed, “ninja”-masked cops harassing people at a motorcycle swapmeet last Thanksgiving; an annual event held to celebrate the anniversary of the sponsoring business. Gillespie’s Gestapo was also illegally detaining and harassing bikers at the annual BikeFest held here last weekend (an event that brings in thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts and tens of thousands of tourist dollars every year). They had one small group of riders publicly strip to the waist so they could photograph their tattoos as well as their faces. The bikers had done nothing wrong, no citations were issued, no arrests made; they were just told to get out of Nevada and don’t come back or they’d be arrested (For what? Who knows.) Just a couple of examples of LVPD illegally targeting people that Gillespie doesn’t like. As for guns: Clark County is the only county in Nevada that requires all handguns to be registered with the Sheriff. Groups such as NRA and GOA have tried to get this law removed to make it equitable throughout the state, but Gillespie refuses. He don’t like motorcycles, he don’t like guns; too bad he doesn’t not like real criminals, like street gangs and meth dealers. Maybe then he’d harass them for a change.
