The American left was born from the KKK, a hardcore anti-black movement 
It’s always been racist, that’s for sure. But its target shifts over time depending on where it can do most good to them when it comes to expanding their power.
Early last century, that was in the south, where people were opposed to desegregation and equal rights for blacks.
Now it’s in the north east and along the west coast, where blacks and latinos are in the majority so they’re shifting their focus towards attacking whites instead.
It’s racism for political gain, not so much for economic or religious or scientific (eugenics, their tool in the 1930s and ’40s to discriminate against Jews…) reasons.
