“Good for Jews” – like “change we can believe in” – is an inherently ambiguous turn of phrase. What it means depends heavily on what one considers to be “good.” There are those (e.g. progressives at JStreet, the New York Times and the Forward) who think what Israel needs is a good hard slap from America, just like they’ve been getting for years from Europe. (For these folks, as the editor of Ha’aretz put it, the thought of Israel getting “raped” inspires “wet dreams.” By this definition, of course Obama is good for the Jews!

I define “good” a little differently.
