“At the very least, when an issue is near and dear to them, as “the corruption of money in politics” is, they appeared ready now to call foul when Obama goes a step too far.”
I’m a bit more cynical than Jennifer Rubin. It’s not the “issue” of campaign finance reform that is near and dear to their hearts, it’s the power baby. By limiting the campaign spending of candidates, the MSM ensures that candidates and parties must turn to the MSM to get their message to the American people. By limiting speech (campaign spending) the MSM makes their own speech, their own messages more valuable and makes the message field less crowded.
For the MSM, Campaign Finance Reform was always about maintaining and increasing their own power. With Obama dissing the MSM by telling them, “I’m not going to depend on you”, means that Obama is not going to be the puppet of the MSM (he’s going the be the puppet of Axelrod and Soros, but that’s another story).
This is why the media has criticized Obama on his campaign financing. Is this a one time slap for the Obamessiah? Probably.
