To me this is the logical end-point of moral relativism. When people no longer have intrinsic value, when animals are elevated to the same level as human beings, it is only “rational” that the dangerous ones (us) be eliminated to preserve the others. Of course, that kind of thinking implies at least some moral framework- that all living things are equally worth preserving. It seems to me that a TRUE rationalist and atheist would just subscribe to evolutionary theory alone, and if we run rampant over other species, as long as it doesn’t hurt us, so be it. I’m fine with that, too.
