First off, the writer is mistaken. In 1948 the R’s ran Tom Dewey and Earl Warren, governors of New York & California respectively, who of course lost. As to Barbour/Daniels, or the reverse permutation, or any other combination of either with a Huckabee, Gingrich, DeMint, Pawlenty, Romney, or other shopworn names guarantees O’s re-election. And much as I love her Sarah on the ticket in ’012 will provide the extended MSM- incl. the tabloids with a perpetual moving target, making it impossible to focus attacks on O’s policy agenda. Sarah needs to bide her time, she’s just too honest and personally vulnerable now to withstand the relentless jihad the Dems have mounted, and will even more ferociously will mount against her if she become a candidate again. What the R’s sorely need IMHO is a truly dark horse (somewhat as Ike was in ’52), somebody who can be portrayed as “above politics.” Petraeus would be ideal, if he ever could be persuaded to run. Otherwise I’d suggest (as the Dylan line has it)’a complete unknown’, but with both business and hard-knuckles political (or military) experience. I solicit other names from readers if these speculations extend to future PJ articles.
