10ft^2 is close to 38×38. I’m 27″ wide, so that’s 11″/2 or 5.5″ to the border of my “turf”. As the neighbors have similar, that’s 11″ between our shoulders, assuming both the same size. That’s a pretty dense crowd.

Perhaps it would be better to assume hexagons, like marbles. That would give a little more room, but it’s still pretty tight.
Four square feet is 24″x24″, and that’s tighter than boot camp “nutz-to-buttz”. Nobody goes anywhere in that sort of crowd, and no one has room to fall down. Natural variation in crowd density means some are going to be even tighter, and dead of suffication.
