Buzz, f you follow the links back to my previous crowd estimates, we covered that exact point. The estimates aren’t made by some count of the people visible; they’re made by applying known rules (from the Park Service) to the apparent area covered.
The approach I take is extremely conservative (heh). That is, I carefully arrange the estimates so all the likely sources of systematic error lead to under-estimation rather than over-estimation.
That said, I hjaven’t been in Solvang in years and years. Send me an aebelskiver pan.
