24. Betty Knows said . . .
‘Crowd? Forget the crowd. More people would show up for a free Justin Beiber concert.
‘I thought we were going to see miracles. It was going to be a turning point for America . . . a defibrillator to the heart of America . . . the Woodstock of the next generation . . . “This will be a moment that people will remember for the rest of their lives . . . if you’e not there you will regret it for the rest of your life . . . You will see something on Saturday that has not happened in America for 228 years . . . it “may be the last time anybody’s going to be allowed to gather at the Lincoln Memorial . . . this is going to be something that you’ll never, ever experience any other time. . . . What is going to happen on 8-28 will be a miracle” . . . all because god told him so. I wonder if it was god who told him to hire Jessica Hahn as his radio show’s prize and weather bunny?
‘None of Beck’s promises happened. None of ‘em. Instead it was one long, boring, predictable homage to the marketability of extreme right wing celebrities.
‘That’s what happens when you get bamboozled by a carnival barker. “Come on in, ladies and gentlemen, and witness the shocking visage of Otis the Frog Boy – the amphibian misfortune. You’ll be shocked! You’ll be terrified! You’ll be grateful your god didn’t curse you with the slimy skin of a pond dweller! Enter this tent and you will be changed forever.”
‘The guy’s a conman, nothing more. And you’ve been conned. You’re just too proud and stubborn to admit it.’
And 26. egoist said . . .
‘God hijacks tea party. That’s the take away for me, and I was pretty enthusiastic about the tea party – now, I regard this as the worst possible outcome.’

I have to agree with both of you. It was very corny.
Newsflash: There are millions of patriotic–and yes, religious–Americans who don’t believe or literally believe in the bible or the Book of Mormon, or think of God as some Stern Man in the Sky dispensing miracles helter-skelter, or withholding them at whim, or cursing nations for not officially promoting His latest tome. And some of us can read and appreciate the Constitution without bursting into tears and beating our breasts.
Glen Beck may mean well, but he’s too much of a drama queen to be entirely credible.
He is best on radio, where he can be very funny, but dreadful on television. What I find most perplexing is his enthralled television studio audiences. Are these people retarded? Are they the same people who sat through Jimmy Swaggart’s dog-and-pony show and sacrificed their hard-earned money to his flim-flam?
I don’t think referring to Beck’s ‘celebrities’ as ‘right-wing’ is necessarily fair, however. ‘Untalented’ might be more accurate. How come these events always feature bad (usually country) singers, bad musicians, and bad music?
Beck claims to have found God ten years ago. Maybe God was hiding for a reason.
