Glenn Beck Rally: How Big Was the Crowd?

To m, the salient thing about this rally was that Glenn Beck, an essentially nonpartisan commentator, organized it and fueled the enthusiasm of the attendees.

True, Beck approves of more Republican public figures than of Democrats — or perhaps we should say that he disapproves more of the Democrats. Nevertheless, he’s unsparing of anyone in public life who traduces the Constitution or who asserts privileges of “power above or beyond the laws” (Kipling). But he’s refrained from aligning himself with either party, and holds both of them responsible for the destruction of our Constitutional order.

If each of the attendees at his rally represents a larger number — perhaps 50 or 100 — of Americans who agree with him but couldn’t make it there, we’re looking at one damn big trend…one that’s likely to grow further.
