No the timing alone doesn’t convict, but it’s enough to justify more attention. A solid case would require knowing what the Senator and Auchi discussed that night at the party, if they discussed anything at all; that Obama knew Rezko’s bid for the Chamchamal project was highly irregular; that the Senator felt there was linkage between the interests of his Chicago constituents and his policy on Iraq.
But let’s imagine for a moment we could construct an analogous kind of timeline for Dick Cheney. Would it convict? No. Would it be worth a story and a follow up? There would probably not only be one, but several.
