Each Federal legislator spends about $18 million per DAY of other people’s money. Can you imagine doling out that kind of cash in the private sector and being treated the way we treat our Congressmen? Do you think the Purchasing VP at Caterpillar openly abuses half the customers, has bridges named after him, and is totally expected to steal whatever money he doesn’t siphon off to his buddies?
You are completely correct, it is time to change how we treat these people. They are our employees, but as you point out, it is much more than that.
