The author fails to point out that it was the social movements of the Sixties that provided the perfect backdrop for Democrats to paint Republicans out to be racist, sexist, homophobes, who don’t care about the envrionment.
Blacks tend to be poor, so giving them handouts plays right into the Democrats big government agenda. Hence, they portray Republicans who believe in a self sufficency and true equality as racists who want to return to the days of Jim Crow.
By nodding along with the most extreme male bashing elements of feminism, Democrats can claim to be champions of women’s rights, while portraying Republicans as the old boy network that wants to send women back to the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.
By nodding along with the most extreme elements of the gay rights movement, Democrats can claim to be champions of homosexuals, while portraying Republicans who defend the need for some sense of decency, modesty and sexual morality, as homophobes who want to send gays back into the closet.
The global warming scare plays right into the Democrat’s big government plans to regulate major industries and tell us all how to live. So they nod along with the environmental wackos, while portraying Republicans as heartless agents of enviromental destruction.
The social movements of the Sixties all had positive elements, and were non-partisan in nature. The Democrats saw an opportunity to use these various movements to turn Republicans into scary monsters. The Republican party’s PR apparatus is to blame for not figuring out exactly what was going on and diffuse this propaganda campaign. Even the author of this article doesn’t seem to understand that it’s all about the social movements of the Sixties and how the Democrats have expolited them for the past forty years.
