It might be argued that Islamic slavery is not race-based the way we think of “black slavery”.

So what are you saying? That the degree to which slavery is bad depends on skin colour or that slavery based on a person’s faith is not as bad as that based on skin colour?
Slavery as practiced back in the 7th century is just as bad as that practiced today by the Muslims in Sudan, Northern Nigeria and other regions.
