Mike T.: The key phrase there is “with their [own] parents’ permission.” Michele’s point concerns adults giving alcohol to other people’s children. It is not their place to undermine the values those parents are trying to teach their own kids. For the record, I have served my own underage kids small amounts of alcohol at home on special occasions, such as Christmas, but I never served their friends.
