As I recall, lots of countries don’t automatically grant citizenship to anyone born on their soil. In contrast, there are even some countries, like Germany, that DO grant citizenship to people of German origin whose families have been living in Russia for 250 years and don’t speak a word of German.
It’s a Law of Return, if you will, for ethnic Germans & there is no criticism of Germany for wanting to maintain and reinforce the fundamental character of their nation, which has never claimed to be the melting pot that America is.
