I am a WASP professional. I lived and worked in Japan for a number of years. Like most developed countries, Japan has no tradition of letting children born there automatically become Japanese. When my daughter was born in Tokyo, it was made very clear to me that as soon as I got out of the hospital, I had to hot-foot it over to the American embassy and immediately get her a passport, and do the proper immigration paperwork or risk having my 1 week daughter deported as an illegal alien. I was a guest in their country, so of course I did what was required. People who get their knickers in twists over the topic of immigration should take a look at what is standard operating procedure in other developed countries, and even in MEXICO.
