What a weak interview. If the interviewer knew any history or read the works of Chomsky, Judt, or Edward Said, it would have been revealed how America’s history in the middle east has always been one of economics: oil and opening new markets to sell and exploit goods!
The support of the state of israel was as a puppet, colonial, eastern european (ashkenazi) purpose. Religion (Zionism) was used as a subtext to unite jews from various european backgrounds. Of course, the tragedy of WWII aided sympathy for the movement.
American Jews need to take the fingers out of their ears and wake up to the disasterous and costly history of Israel, which may not even exist in ten more years. Even Albert Einstein opposed the concept of the stae of israel. And for Oren (former IDF employee) to duck and dodge the real issues of America (and European) colonialism in the middle east, deems his book trivial and evasive.
