Wow. As if the post wasn’t bigoted enough, we have posters more than willing to pick up any slack left by Ms. Berry.
First off, her thesis was written over 20 years ago. You are either naive or plain dumb if you think that interracial relations have not vastly improved from the 80′s. Factor that into an Ivy League school that wasn’t used to seeing black faces on campus, and you have the situation in which she wrote about. Even her roommate admitted that she was a bit sketchy about having a black roommate…but M.Obama’s just making this all up, right?
Second, the southside of Chicago is a mix of all types of economic situations living in one neighborhood. So it is VERY possible she could’ve been a middle-class family living around those who were not. Which means she would know something about their plight.
Third, you don’t know Obama, Ms. Berry, so how can you possibly know what she “thinks”??? What if I said to you that while you aren’t “racist”, you *think* all blacks are??
Fourth, black history is not well taught in public or private schools. White history is everywhere. Sorry to burst your bubble, but blacks have been involved in this country since its inception. The real crime is that she should have to take a specific class directed at black studies in order to get a good grasp of the role that blacks played in this nation.
And I’m black. And I was also surprised that Obama won Iowa. Guess that makes me racist, hunh? Or, whoops, I mean, I guess that means that I think all whites are racist.
What a horrible article. The world is that much worse for having had this blatant smear (with horrible racial undertones) in print.
