G:
Almost all of the newspapers in Canada, certainly all of them in the large cities, have had one or more editorials condemning this hearing and calling for the removal of section 13. There is a private member’s bill in Parliament introduced by a Liberal (but opposed by the governing Conservative Party) to repeal section 13.
Section 13 – for all of the ominous end-of-the-world hyperbole of this website and the usual scaremongers – has been used by about 2 people before this hearing since it came into law about a decade and a half ago. That fact alone belies the claims by the wingnuts here that it is the end of Canada and of the moonbats over wherever who claim repealing section 13 would gut the whole protection of human rights in Canada.
Further, despite what these idiot complainants claim, section 13 has not been fully tested against the Charter of Rights in these circumstances. This hearing will find in favour of Maclean’s. If it doesn’t, then it will go to the Supreme Court and will find in favour of Maclean’s. Other than the scaremongers and the idiot complainants, I don’t know anyone who thinks otherwise. It’s like the nuisance lawsuit: it’s hard to stop someone from bringing one but almost all of them fail.
