Obama’s Choice: 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts, or Joy Behar?
68 Dart – After my article was published, I regretted I did not include a paragraph I removed about the issue you raise – past Presidents attending or not attending. A couple of thoughts. First, the 100th anniversery is special and more important than the other Jamborees, in my view. Second, George Bush did in fact attend in 2005. And Third, in 1981 when I attended, Ronald Reagan was scheduled to attend but was slammed by the strike of the air traffic controllers. The nation’s air transport system was threatened with paralysis. As you may recall, the President took some drastic actions personally to end the strike. The 1981 Jamboree took place right in the middle of that mess and he can be forgiven for cancelling. I was disappointed he did not come, but it was somewhat understandable. Paralysis of the air transport system is not The View. I suppose the most important point, however, is the 100th anniversery is a special event which should not be missed. I hope the President finds tiime this weekend to attend. It would take Marine One about 30 minutes to get there.
