In the US, when guns become more accessible, violent crime drops. A quick look at any US state before and after gun liberalization will confirm this. From a public safety perspective, gun laws should be less stringent.
But this isn’t about public safety, anyway. Its about whether or not people should be denied the de facto right to self defense by the de jure ban on the tools of self defense. People have a right to defend themselves, therefore they have a right to peacefully acquire and keep the tools of self defense.
In a similar vein, people have a right to peacefully acquire healthcare. But if I am attacked by someone who needs my money for surgery, I will defend myself with the tools at hand.
