Dr. Hsieh names a vital element, in his excellent essay, that we who want to forestall tyranny must understand. That those seeking to impose serfdom on each of us have an irrational, erroneous view of people. They offer no proof of it, they merely act as though it is self-evident that we are all repressed homicidal maniacs; or non-functioning dupes who must be told when, how and if to get medical care. Funnily enough, they think we’re smart enough to read their rules and follow them, as well as functioning enough to get up and go to work to pay the taxes they need for their royal decrees.
