Correction: Wikipedia was wrong. The film being released in 2008 is a Kurt Vonnegut film A MAN WITHOUT A COUNTRY which has nothing to do with the Edward Everett Hale story last made into a TV movie in the early 70′s starring Cliff Robertson and Beau Bridges.
This would be a terrific project for a film maker who loves America. It could be made inexpensively (pay at scale but with points on gross profits) and if well-made I think it would be extremely profitable, returning 20 to 100 times its investment. Perhaps more. Hollywood lefties have lost a ton of money underestimating the patriotism of the American people. And I think the public would love sticking it to Hollyweirdies by coming out for a patriotic film.
