I’m not a Jew and I believe I’m better placed than some to comment.

I live in the midst of a Jewish community and get on very well with my neighbours. It’s not a religious community either – they “mix with the rest of the world”From what I’ve heard none of my neighbours have suffered any serious anti-Semitism, and we have engaged in rigorous debate on more than one occasion about what, in my view constitutes Jew hatred. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, but I believe the Jewish community is in danger of becoming engaged in a little too much navel gazing on the subject. I would stand shoulder to shoulder with my Jewish neighbours to combat any Jew-hatred, however in a sense they’re taking their eye off the ball here. Somebody mentioned further up the thread that they’re ignoring the elephant in the room – Islam – which is a clear and present threat to BOTH the Jewish community and the wider non-Muslim community in the UK.

Old habits die hard, and Jew hatred is one of them. No amount of race hate legislation will stop it – on the contrary, the zealots who want it brought in must not be allowed to smear all “goyim” with the brush because of what may well be in some cases innocent remarks “taken the wrong way”. The Jewish community needs all the help it can get. By all means be vigilant, but also start working with the wider community to combat the greatest danger we are facing – extremist Islam, which is working very hard indeed to set Jews and Christians against each other. Please – don’t fall into the trap. British Jews have given so much to this country – don’t give up now.
