Pressing for Israel-PA Negotiations? Obama Sets Himself Up for Mideast Failure, Again
Terry, I take your point. I only read Maariv because it helps me brush up on my Hebrew, which I expect to be using daily in a few months.
I also agree with your assessment of your understanding of the ME versus an ‘American’ or ‘Israeli’ one. Not only do Jews I know here think I’m completely off-base in my opinions about how Israel should address its security needs, so do the majority of Israelis whom I’ve ‘shared with.’ So be it. I studied the history in both university and grad school, and evolved from a leftist position. I studied the history of Israel and the role of Labour as well (it’s ‘Labour’ in ‘Hebrew’
). Martin Buber had more to do with the mindset of many early Halutzim than Raful Eitan; if you get my drift.
As to Barak – agreed. He plays the Israelis off against the Americans, for the benefit of Barak.
Tommy Peters, I hope you’re right. I think you are mostly right, anyhow.
