~Paules:

Going up before on these trumped up claims -claims almost everyone, including supporters, agrees have little chance of succeeding and where the magazine may face a fine and, highly unlikely, be required to publish an article – is no different than the fight for liberty in the American Revolution??????

Even if the two fights were on the same planet – which they are not – and the consequences even remotely similar – death vs a fine – and even if these HRCs are a joke – which they are – let’s not forget that Steyn and Shaidle and co. are ones who lament the end of apartheid and segregation, wish to censor academics and Bush critics, censor erotica, want to lock up prisoners without due process, sue the bejeezus out of anyone who crosses them, etc.. Steyn in particular is a great whiner when it comes to criticism of him and is well known to get his editors to edit or censor articles critical of him.

In other words, these people are no friend to individual rights and liberties, including free speech. They only want to ride the coattails of individual rights out of convenience to them.

As is their right. As they should have that right. And we should certainly be outraged if the tribunals find against them.

But let’s not make them out to be heros sacrificing for the greater good. They are not trying to throw off an oppressive government. Their defence of liberties (free speech) are more like a criminal lawyer trying to ride the coattails of individual rights (search and seizure, due process, undue punishment, etc.) to avoid punishment.
