Does oil consumption cause global warming? Let’s examine the numbers.
The world total consumption of oil is about 27 billion barrels each year.
This is about 1.03 cubic miles of crude oil.
If this amount of oil were spread across the entire surface of the Earth, how thick would the film of oil be?
It would take 12 years worth of total oil consumption to be as thick as a sheet of copier paper, or 0.004 inches thick.
The atmosphere above the thin sheet of oil out weighs the yearly oil by 1.27E6 to 1.
