Right…How, and with what, will this sheriff pay for food an ammo for the 10k militia? With what budget? And housing? Logistics? There’s a reason he’s calling for the military and national guard. He is in over his head, and he knows it, and he’s asking for help from the feds- asking them to do their -ing job.
Plus, imagine the nightmare if the sheriffs deputies happened to, oh, I don’t know, cross the border in pursuit of a gang? Maybe following a running firefight? If it’s neo-nazis, then they can easily be arrested by the Mexican army without issue from our side of the border. That might, finally get the army involved, to control the whole situation. If it was a recognized militia- holy crap man, can you imagine? Do we really need a full out diplomatic/cold war with Mexico right now? There are solutions, but the federal government needs to get involved in a very serious way. This isn’t even about immigration- it’s about drug smuggling and human trafficing.
And don’t kid yourself about the white supremists. Do you seriously believe they have that much pride in the US, a US that elected a non-white President? This is about finding some kind of supposedly legitimate reason to kill some non-whites. These are not nice, patriotic men. These are likely men who are going to take out all their anger and hate on others. It’s bad enough to start a war with drug smugglers (wars are not self-contained, and IT WILL spread into the towns around the area, much worse than it has already), but what will they do with the people who are in the hands of the traffickers? Without any law to guide them, will they provide help and send them on their way back across the border, or simply ‘eliminate’ the problem? I know where I’d put my money.
