The difference is is that you don’t hear Americans bitching and crying because the UK wouldn’t lift a finger to help us when we were fighting the commies.

Your country couldn’t even BEGIN to pay the debt you owe the United States.
You could however honor the formal defensive alliance you have with the United States as a gesture.

I’m sure the over 9,000 Americans resting in just that ONE graveyard in Normandy are impressed by the magnitude of your national sacrifice in Afghanistan.
