Here’s a crazy thought: maybe Obama is the candidate more people can stomach. Perhaps people aren’t being sexist, but refuse to side with millions of women who believe that suffering through all the indignities of being Clinton’s spouse and the right wing conspiracy qualifies one to be President. Drama seems to follow the Clinton’s wherever they go, along with the shared sentiment that because they did so much good for the American people that the American people somehow owes them. Perhaps focusing on sexism is easier to do for the Clintons then to admit that they have lied in their own bed that they themselves have made. And this belief that Clinton is the only one who has suffered from unfair media coverage is a myth. People will talk smack. Nothing, not even appointing feminists to every single Obama administration post will prevent that. Part of equality means that you can lose as well as win like the men. To pretend that because she is a woman is the reason she lost her presidency is a sexist thought in itself. She ran a poor campaign, didn’t play the game well, and ran the last part of her campaign like a procrastinating college student that suddenly realizes she is going to fail the course if she doesn’t put her nose to the grind. She is not the end all and be all of women leaders. More will come. Bet on it.
