Point of this article is that the people who have lived in the nation for generations have found a voice as a community to contest the introduction of a private madrassa that would not be teaching educational courses with anything like the energy to teach religion. And some politicians finally heard them.
On the other side of the argument is the imam who ran off to Malaysia to get more money to buy more political power (see former mayor). It is that oil money which will eventually force the local community to lose their say because of judicial fiat.
That is why this is a story. Man bites dog gets more media play.
