But there may be no turning back for the press. Rhetoric and promise can only take a president so far. Events happen, and they must be dealt with.
I disagree. Above all else the vast majority of the press desires a one-party fascist state, and that is exactly what Obama is attempting to deliver. So while a David Broder or a Maureen Dowd will occasionally grumble, in the end they will simply take a deep breath and plunge off the cliff with Obama. The beautiful intelligent Messiah they elected in 2008 may have turned out to be a stupid clod with a bunch of warts on His face, but they still believe He will lead them into the Promised Land of a totalitarian police state.
For that reason, look for the media to run a bunch of “Comeback Kid” and “How Obama got his groove back” stories just before the 2010 and 2012 elections. Things will not have noticeably improved by then (likely they will be much worse than they are now), but for the press to finally realize its cherished dream of a leftist tyranny in America they must continue to play the role of cheerleader for their Beloved.
