I believe traditional religion does have a role to play… foreign policy is not that role. The Psalms are beautiful. The Proverbs are wise. There is great value in many aspects of traditional religions… but basing today’s geopolitical decisions on a mythology of God granting property to some people 4000+ years ago… not a great use of religion.
Indeed, were we to look at the whole Bible, there’s some pretty strong evidence that God created a New Covenant with all of Mankind, the antitypical Covenant of which the Moasic covenant was merely a shadow of. If one considers 2000 years of tradition, the Mosaic Covenant is no longer in place… there is no longer a Priestly class, no longer even a way to determine who might be of the tribe of Levi. Thus no sacrifices could take place, nor could even a Temple be properly built nor dedicated to YHVH, there or anywhere else.
Do not presume that my disgust at abusing the Bible for political gain stems from a lack of knowledge or understanding. It reminds me of the Pharisees and Sadducees of the first century, selling shit wrapped up in a covering of the Law and expecting everyone to live with it.
