I am referring to the far Western reaches of recognized China…Uighur Xinjiang.
As far as Tibet is concerned, during some dynasties it was contained within what were then recognizable China. I leave that region’s status as an open question. Most likely it, like Xinjiang, will become an “autonomous region”.
One could argue the same for Xinjiang, but for the twentieth century and at least part of the Qing dynasty it was part of “China”.
Like Europe with Muslim migration, both areas will soon be over-run by the major Han ethnic group, which are 90-95% of the Chinese population. Tibet and Xinjiang will then be moot points…at best.
BTW, is Islam a “recognized” religion under PRC’s constitution? Stay tooned…
