Considering that many of the same thugs who ran that empire into the ground and slaughtered a good number of people not merely escaped the noose but indeed forged a new power that continued the Ottoman crimes of yore and who are still revered as absolutely BEYOND critcism, I would have to say “NO.”
Say what you will about Greece, but at least they have been a fairly consisten ally throughout all of this. The Turks are nowhere near that. If I were in Washington, I would be making VERY vague threats about if Turkey were to join the enemy camp and dare strike at us, the Greeks get Cyprus, the Aegean Islands, and perhaps even Pontus and Constantiople back.
I can’t imagine how much damage such a proposal would do to the equilibrium of the region if actually put into action, but the Turkish regimes- both Kemalist and Islamist- need to be informed that there will be a high- perhaps disproportionately and even irrationally so- cost should they attempt to cross the West more than they have already.
