Another Perspective on the BP Oil Spill

Drilling for oil is risky. Absolutely. However BP’s risk management seems to be directed at minimising the cost of liability rather than minimising impact of a problem. If they (and I dare say that the rest of the oil companies are the same) put money into engineering contingency rather than legal mitigation, then we wouldn’t be looking at a problem on such a scale – particularly as we head into hurricane season.

Remember the Ford Pinto? Seems like some accountant types in BP made a bet on people’s lives and guess what?. They lost so we all lost!
