The big story that no one has missed and everyone ignores and that is and was so inevitable, is how New York City civically, culturally and socially has corrupted since 9/11/01.
The downward spiral is slow miasmically taking place before our eyes, like watching grumpy snide senior lurch into the early stages of organic brain decay then into a full hopeless case of Alzheimer’s.
The 19th and 20th century coattails are fraying down to threads. Thrice electing a mincing billionaire health food harpy, a man who is spooked by the saltiness of our french fries, and those who would dissent against 30 trillion dollar deficits. The mayor who see’s American ruminating as a more likely source of violence than that which has mega mugged it (WTC I & II) ;” and the hits’ just keep on coming”!
New York regrettably will not wake up. It is so insular and above it all. It is corruption layered upon corruption. A terminal case of “Mr De Mille, I’m ready for my closeup.” Slowly the camera comes into focus and you realize the city is just the backdrop to a larger drama that must be played out.
